QuickBooks Time Alternatives (2026): 10 Clocks, No Base Fee
A QuickBooks Time alternative is a time clock for hourly staff that exports to payroll without QuickBooks Time's price structure: a $20 or $40 monthly base fee plus $10 or $12 per user, up $2 per user since July 1, 2026. People leave for four reasons. The base fee, which makes a three-person crew pay $16.67 a head: OnTheClock charges $5 plus $4, and Timeero, Clockify and Jibble have no base fee. Geofencing on Elite only: Timeero, OnTheClock, Connecteam and Workyard include it lower down. Dependence on a QuickBooks account: OnTheClock, Workyard, Homebase and Deputy work with other payrolls or run their own. And overtime alerts that suggest rather than enforce: Workyard and Timeero apply state break rules.
The pages that rank for this search are written by Toggl, Connecteam, Workyard and Time Doctor, each ranking itself first, and several still quote the per-user prices Intuit raised in July. This guide gives October 2026 prices read from each vendor's page, a cost table at 5, 15 and 50 employees, GPS and payroll by plan, and a cancellation sequence that keeps payroll running. There are no vendor links and nothing paid for its place.
The short answer
If the base fee plus per user is the problem, OnTheClock charges $5 base plus $4 per employee with GPS, geofencing and a kiosk, and Timeero and Clockify have no base fee at all. A ten-person crew pays $120 a month on QuickBooks Time Premium, $45 on OnTheClock and $50 on Timeero Basic.
If GPS and geofencing are the job, Timeero puts GPS and mileage on its cheapest plan and geofencing on the middle one; QuickBooks Time keeps geofencing for Elite at $40 plus $12.
If you want to stay in QuickBooks payroll, every tool below exports to QuickBooks Online; OnTheClock also names ADP, Gusto and Paychex. Only QuickBooks Time requires a QuickBooks account to run.
Three starting points by the reason you are leaving, then more by use case.

QuickBooks Time
The incumbentWhat it is
QuickBooks Time, the former TSheets that Intuit bought in January 2018, is a time clock and scheduler that feeds QuickBooks Online, Payroll and Desktop. Both plans include timesheets with approval workflows, scheduling, time off, overtime alerts, a who's-working dashboard, a tablet kiosk with optional facial recognition and photo attachments, and phone and chat support. Elite adds GPS geofencing, timesheet signatures, project tracking with estimates against actuals, an activity feed and mileage. Intuit's product page says the integration requires an active QuickBooks Online, Payroll or Desktop account.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- Hours flow straight into QuickBooks payroll with no mapping each run
- Scheduling, kiosk with facial recognition and approvals on every plan
- Large installed base and phone support
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Base fee plus per user: $120 a month for ten people on Premium before the promo ends
- Per-user fees up $2 on July 1, 2026, from $8 and $10 to $10 and $12
- Geofencing, signatures and project tracking only on Elite
- Tied to a QuickBooks account
Who should switch to it
Hourly crews already running QuickBooks Online Payroll who value the native sync over price. Our attendance tracking software review places it among its peers.
Prices are from quickbooks.intuit.com on October 21, 2026. Intuit's own product page still shows a placeholder per-worker fee, and several competitor articles still quote the pre-July rates, so compare against the pricing page, not the product page or a third party.
Why people leave QuickBooks Time
QuickBooks Time's review-site scores are good. People leave over price structure and dependence on QuickBooks, not over the app failing. The reasons below are the documented ones.
Base fee plus per user
A $20 or $40 monthly base before anyone clocks in makes small crews pay the most per head. Three employees on Premium cost $50 a month, $16.67 each. The same three on OnTheClock cost $17.
Fixed by: OnTheClock ($5 base), Timeero, Clockify and Jibble (no base fee).
The July 2026 increase
Per-user fees rose from $8 to $10 on Premium and $10 to $12 on Elite on July 1, 2026, according to the customer notice reported by competitors and confirmed by the current pricing page. A 25-person Elite account went from $290 to $340 a month.
Fixed by: flat per-user tools with published annual discounts: Timeero, Clockify, Deputy.
Geofencing costs the Elite tier
Restricting clock-ins to the job site is the feature field employers want most, and it sits on Elite at $40 plus $12. Premium gets GPS stamps at best.
Fixed by: Timeero Pro ($7.50), OnTheClock ($4 plus $5), Connecteam Advanced, Workyard Pro.
Locked to QuickBooks
The integration requires an active QuickBooks Online, Payroll or Desktop account. A business that moves payroll to Gusto, ADP or Paychex loses the reason it bought the product.
Fixed by: OnTheClock (QuickBooks, Gusto, ADP, Paychex, Paylocity), Workyard (QuickBooks, ADP, Gusto), Homebase and Deputy with their own payroll.
Battery drain and GPS accuracy
Reviews describe background GPS draining phones on long shifts and occasional unexpected clock-outs. Any GPS clock has this problem; the tools that handle it best let you choose GPS stamps on punches rather than continuous tracking.
Fixed by: punch-stamp GPS by default: OnTheClock, Jibble, Clockify.
Overtime alerts are suggestions
QuickBooks Time alerts managers to approaching overtime; it does not enforce break or overtime rules by state. Employers in California, Washington and Oregon need meal-break enforcement, not reminders.
Fixed by: Workyard (state, federal or custom break and overtime rules on Starter), Timeero (California break policy on Pro), Jibble (overtime and paid-break calculation).

The alternatives in detail
OnTheClock
The direct price comparisonWhat it is
OnTheClock is the tool to put beside QuickBooks Time on a spreadsheet: the same base-plus-per-user shape at a quarter of the base and under half the per-user rate, with the geofencing and IP restriction that QuickBooks Time keeps for Elite. It names QuickBooks, Gusto, ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, Sage and SurePayroll as payroll integrations and offers its own payroll.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- $5 base plus $4 against $20 plus $10
- Geofencing, kiosk and IP restriction on the one plan
- The widest named payroll integration list here
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Smaller vendor; no facial recognition except on its enterprise hardware clock
- Its own pricing calculator showed a total that did not match its listed rates on the day we checked; confirm
- Scheduling is simpler than Deputy's or Homebase's
Who should switch to it
Small hourly crews that want the QuickBooks Time feature set without the invoice.
Switching
Export approved timesheets from QuickBooks Time by pay period; OnTheClock maps employees to QuickBooks once and syncs from the next run.
Timeero
GPS and mileage without a base feeWhat it is
Timeero is built for crews that drive: GPS and mileage tracking on the cheapest plan, geofencing, scheduling, job tracking, photo attachments, accounting and payroll integrations and a California break policy on Pro, facial recognition kiosk, signatures and an API on Premium.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- Mileage and GPS on Basic, which QuickBooks Time charges Elite for
- No base fee and per-active-user billing
- California meal-break policy built in
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Basic is capped at 10 users
- Integration partners are not named on the pricing page; confirm QuickBooks Desktop
- Less suited to shops and restaurants
Who should switch to it
Field service, home health and construction crews whose main need is where people were and how far they drove.
Switching
Timeero imports employees from CSV; mileage history starts fresh.
Homebase
Free for a single siteWhat it is
Homebase prices per location rather than per employee, which inverts QuickBooks Time's structure. Scheduling, a time clock with location-based clock-in, messaging and hiring are on every plan; break and overtime preferences and PTO controls arrive on the paid tiers, and payroll is its own add-on.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- Free for a single-location team of ten
- Per-location pricing with unlimited employees
- Scheduling, hiring and payroll in one product
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Per-location pricing punishes multi-site operators
- GPS and geofencing are not named as such on the pricing page
- No job costing or project tracking
Who should switch to it
Restaurants, retail and other single-site shift businesses.
Switching
Import employees from CSV; Homebase's payroll or QuickBooks export takes over from the next period.
Connecteam
Time clock, scheduling and chat for deskless teamsWhat it is
Connecteam bundles a time clock with GPS, scheduling, tasks, forms and chat for frontline teams, priced per hub for the first 30 users. Geofence sites arrive on Advanced (up to 10) and Expert (unlimited), with auto clock-out from Advanced.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- Flat price to 30 users, so a 25-person crew pays $29
- Chat, tasks and forms alongside the clock
- Free for 10 users on all hubs
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Geofencing limited on lower tiers
- Payroll integration plan mapping not published
- Not a payroll or job-costing system
Who should switch to it
Deskless teams of up to 30 that want communication and scheduling with the clock.
Switching
CSV employee import; integrations with QuickBooks and Gusto are listed, confirm the plan.
Jibble
A free time clockWhat it is
Jibble's free plan covers more than QuickBooks Time Premium charges for: GPS stamps, a face-recognition kiosk, overtime and paid-break calculation, schedules, approvals and exports to QuickBooks, Xero and Deel.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- Free for unlimited users
- Facial recognition kiosk and geofencing
- Overtime and break rules
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Paid pricing not published
- Scheduling and advanced geofencing on paid tiers
- Facial recognition needs biometric consent in Illinois
Who should switch to it
Any hourly team that wants to stop paying for a time clock.
Switching
Import employees from CSV; export to QuickBooks from the first pay period.
Deputy
Scheduling with compliance rulesWhat it is
Deputy is shift scheduling first, with time clocking, labor law compliance and payroll integrations on Lite, biometric kiosk with face unlock on Core, and geolocation-based clock-in blocking. It is strongest in hospitality and retail with complex rosters.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- Labor law compliance rules on the cheapest plan
- Face-unlock kiosk on Core
- Advanced scheduling with demand forecasting
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- $30 monthly minimum; managers count as seats
- No job costing
- SMS fees apply
Who should switch to it
Hospitality and retail operators who need rostering and compliance more than GPS.
Switching
CSV import; Deputy exports to QuickBooks and other payroll providers.
When I Work
Cheap scheduling with a clockWhat it is
When I Work is scheduling for hourly teams with a time clock, GPS and geofence clock-in, and payroll and POS integrations from Essentials. Its pricing page is internally inconsistent about which plan carries time and attendance, so confirm the quote.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- From $2.50 per user with no base fee
- Scheduling built for multi-location shift teams
- Payroll and POS integrations
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Pricing page inconsistent about time and attendance; get it in writing
- No kiosk named on the pricing page
- Thin on job costing and projects
Who should switch to it
Multi-location shift teams that mostly need the schedule.
Switching
CSV import; confirm the payroll provider integration before canceling QuickBooks Time.
Workyard
Built for constructionWhat it is
Workyard puts GPS tracking, mileage, break and overtime rules by state and payroll exports to QuickBooks, ADP and Gusto on its cheapest plan, with scheduling, geofencing, kiosk, labor cost reporting and accounting sync on Pro and automatic clock-in and meal-break rules on Autopilot.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- State, federal or custom break and overtime rules on the entry plan
- GPS on every plan; geofencing on Pro
- QuickBooks, ADP and Gusto exports on Starter
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Pro and Autopilot prices are not published
- Construction-shaped; less fit for shops
- Monthly price not listed
Who should switch to it
Construction and trades crews that need compliance rules enforced, not suggested.
Switching
CSV import; QuickBooks export from the first period.
Clockify
Project time plus attendance, no base feeWhat it is
Clockify is a project tracker with an attendance layer: kiosk on Basic, attendance, overtime and the QuickBooks integration on Standard, GPS and scheduling on Pro. It suits hourly office staff more than field crews, because there is no geofencing.
Better than QuickBooks Time
- No base fee, free for five
- Kiosk seats under a dollar
- Project time and attendance in one tool
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- No geofencing; GPS only on Pro
- No native payroll
- Free plan limited since April 2026
Who should switch to it
Office and hybrid hourly staff whose hours also need to land on projects.
Switching
Clockify maps customers and employees to QuickBooks on Standard.
Hubstaff

Better than QuickBooks Time
- GPS job sites with automatic clock-in
- Payroll from tracked hours through several providers
- Desktop and mobile in one account
Where QuickBooks Time is still better
- Desktop monitoring features are a different conversation with staff
- 2-seat minimum
- Needs a monitoring notice in several states if screenshots are on
Who should switch to it
Businesses with both a field crew and an office team.
Switching
CSV import of members; set screenshots off for field roles before inviting.
How to leave QuickBooks Time without breaking payroll
- Export before you cancel. Intuit's own cancellation article says to export first; reports stop when the subscription ends, though timesheets are preserved and reachable by renewing.
- Time the switch to a pay period, and run the new tool in parallel for one cycle so approved hours match before the new tool feeds payroll.
- Rebuild the payroll mapping once. Every alternative here exports to QuickBooks Online; map employees, customers and service items in the new tool before the first sync.
- Cancel in the right place. If QuickBooks Time was added through QuickBooks Online or Payroll, cancel the add-on there; standalone accounts cancel under Billing and Subscription. Payment details are deleted on cancellation; data is not.
- Check break and GPS settings against state law. Meal-break rules in California, Illinois, New York, Washington, Oregon and Colorado and the biometric consent rules for face-recognition kiosks in Illinois are covered in our clock in clock out app review.
How these tools were chosen
Each tool was checked on October 21, 2026 against the same list: price structure with base fees and minimums, GPS and geofencing by plan, scheduling, payroll integrations named on the vendor's page, kiosk and photo options, break and overtime rules, and the export path from QuickBooks Time. Prices come from each vendor's pricing page on that date; where a vendor publishes no price (Workyard above Starter, Jibble's paid tiers) the page says so. Complaint themes come from public review platforms and vendor documentation; review-site scores are not quoted because those pages could not be read for this article. No vendor paid for placement and there are no affiliate links.

Homebase for single-site shift businesses. Workyard for construction crews that need state break rules enforced. Jibble if free matters most. The chooser above ranks them by crew type.

Time Premium is $20 a month plus $10 per user and Time Elite is $40 plus $12 per user, billed monthly, with the base fee halved for the first three months on new subscriptions. Per-user fees rose from $8 and $10 on July 1, 2026. It is also bundled in QuickBooks Workforce Premium and Elite.
Is QuickBooks Time the same as TSheets?
Yes. Intuit announced the TSheets acquisition on December 5, 2017 and closed it in January 2018, then renamed the product QuickBooks Time. The mobile app is now called QuickBooks Workforce.
Does QuickBooks Time require QuickBooks Online?
Intuit's product page states that the integration requires an active QuickBooks Online, Payroll or Desktop account, and the pricing page says Time plans require QuickBooks Online. If you are leaving QuickBooks payroll, OnTheClock, Workyard, Homebase and Deputy connect to other providers or run their own.
Which alternative has GPS and geofencing on a cheap plan?
OnTheClock includes both on its single $4-plus-$5 plan. Timeero has GPS and mileage on Basic at $5 and geofencing on Pro at $7.50. Workyard has GPS on every plan and geofencing on Pro. QuickBooks Time keeps geofencing for Elite at $40 plus $12.

Jibble is free for unlimited users with GPS stamps, a facial recognition kiosk, timesheets and QuickBooks export. Homebase is free for up to 10 employees at one location, Connecteam for up to 10 users, and Clockify for 5 users. None charges a base fee.
Can I cancel QuickBooks Time without losing my data?
Yes. Intuit's help article says timesheets are preserved after cancellation and can be reached again by renewing, while payment details are deleted immediately. Export reports before you cancel, because reporting stops with the subscription. If it was added through QuickBooks Online or Payroll, cancel the add-on there.
Which alternatives enforce break and overtime rules?
Workyard applies state, federal or custom break and overtime rules on its Starter plan and automatic meal-break rules on Autopilot. Timeero has a California break policy on Pro. Deputy lists labor law compliance on Lite. Jibble calculates overtime and paid breaks. QuickBooks Time sends overtime alerts that managers can decline.
